Dan Brown | Author

American author Dan Brown was born on 22 June 1964.

Dan Brown is best known for the 2003 bestselling novel, The Da Vinci Code.

His novels are treasure hunts set in 24-hour time periods which feature the recurring themes of cryptography, keys, symbols, codes, and conspiracy theories.

His books have been translated into over 40 languages he sold over 80 million copies.

The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, have been adapted into feature films. The Da Vinci Code was his 4th novel. It went to the top of the New York Times Best Seller list during its first week of release in 2003.

The Da Vinci Code credited with being one of the most popular books of all time, with 81 million copies sold worldwide as of 2009.

Forbes magazine placed Dan Brown at #12 on their 2005 “Celebrity 100″ list, and  the Times estimated his income from Da Vinci Code sales as $250 million.

Dan Brown‘s 3rd novel, The Lost Symbol, was released in 2009 and sold over one million in hardcover and e-book versions on its first day

Characters in Dan Brown‘s books are often named after real people.

Once the literary work is created in a material form, it is instantly subject to copyright and the owner may use the copyright © symbol.

The best way to protect your literature is to ensure that you have evidence of your rights in the event that your copyright is infringed.

How to Copyright Computer Programs & Software

Software copyright does NOT have to be REGISTERED in South Africa.

Once the computer program is created in a material form, the work is instantly subject to copyright.

The general rule is that the “person who exercised control over the making of the computer program” is the author and first owner of copyright in the work.

This refers to the person who gave instructions on the purpose and functionality of the program. In other words, the programmer / developer is not necessarily the author and copyright owner, especially if he was contracted to create the work under specific instructions.

Once the work is created in a material form the copyright owner may use the copyright © symbol.

Copyright is the exclusive right to control the use of a computer program in all the manners in which it can be exploited for personal gain or profit. This includes:

• Copy
• Publish
• Perform in public
• Broadcast (e.g. Internet)
• Adapt
• Translate
• Let or offer for hire

The best way to protect your computer program / software copyright is to ensure that you have evidence of your rights in the event that your copyright is infringed.
