The only form of copyright which can be registered in South Africa, is copyright in a cinematographic film.
Any other form of creative work is instantly subject to copyright the moment it is created in a material form. No registration is necessary.
(Literacy, Music, Sounds, Photographs, Software Codes)
This registration of a cinematographic film is only done for evidentiary purposes and is not a requirement for establishment of copyright.
The newly formed Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) was established through the amalgamation of the Office of OCIPE and CIPRO.
Main functions of CIPC is the Registration of Companies, Co-operatives and Intellectual Property rights and maintenance thereof.

Cinematographic Film Copyright Costs
The costs of registering copyright in a cinematographic film is R3 500.00 (VAT exclusive).
Copyright for a cinematographic film are registered with the CIPC (previously known as CIPRO).
