Copyright Infringement

Copyright Infringement protection tips for photographs on the Internet

Too many amateur photographers make the mistake of thinking that any photo they upload to the internet will automatically have copyright infringement protection because they can show proof of ownership for the photo.

Whether or not you have proof of ownership it is imperative to go one step further and ensure that you have taken every possible precaution to protect your photos.

The first step you should take in copyright infringement protection of your photos should be to include a copyright notice within the photo as well as embed this notice within the photo when displaying it on the Internet.

Many Internet users don’t realize that the pictures they see on the web are all copyright protected in some form or another. In this instance, a user can easily copy a photo thinking that it can be re-used because when the user typed in the search term, the results showed “free” in the description.

As such always include the copyright notice to prevent copyright infringement because of ignorance on the part of a user.

To do so include the normal copyright symbol which is a C in a circle, along with this include the year or the specific date on which the photograph was published as well as your name, professional name, or your business name within the copyright notice. This will help to warn against copyright infringement.

If you decide to sell your photo make sure to include all the terms and conditions in a list format for the use of the photo.

There are many rights to which you can still keep ownership such as exclusive rights, transactional, all rights, media rights, and lastly printer copyright rights.

This will serve as a type of user agreement and prevent any copyright infringement that can take place because the user misunderstood the terms of usage.
